Ed Scholz is currently the head of engineering for the Propulsion Product Integration team within Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company’s Product Integration organization, and is also the Propulsion Integrated Product Team Lead for the Commercial Space line of business. Ed and his team are directly responsible for design, analysis, integration, test and delivery of certified propulsion subsystems for commercial, civil and military spacecraft clients world-wide. Before his present assignments, Ed was Senior Manager for the Propulsion Integration and Analysis within the Propulsion Subsystems engineering functional organization having responsibility for space propulsion design standards, independent technical review, technology development, and personnel staffing, training and talent management. Ed has over 30 years of experience with Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company. He started his career in propulsion design and analysis within the Strategic Systems Advanced Programs organization working on advanced propulsion concepts and technology. Ed has led multiple new business capture efforts focused on space-based remote sensing and commercial mobile acquisition and data processing using international partnerships and products. In addition, he has been Launch Segment manager for new business capture campaigns, Systems Engineering Lead and Engineering Functional Manager on the Targets and Countermeasures program, Program Manager for Space Operations Vehicle R&D studies, System Design Lead and spacecraft Certified Principle Engineer for the Hubble Robotic Vehicle De-Orbit Module, International Space Station U.S. Propulsion Module Systems Engineering Lead, Design Team Lead for the Atlas V Advanced Weld Cell program, Deputy Program Manager for the NASA Advanced Launch System Advanced Cryotank technology development program, and lead for the Lockheed Martin’s Advanced Launch Systems Research & Technology internal R&D portfolio. Ed has also been involved in a variety of internal teams assessing new business opportunities, R&D project development, proposal development, and internal technical compliance audits. Ed has over 20 years experience in international program development, management and export/import licensing focused on Europe and the Middle East. Ed is a published author of various technical papers in publications including The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Joint Propulsion Conference Proceedings, The Joint Army Navy NASA Air Force (JANNAF) Propulsion Meeting Proceedings, and The International Aluminum-Lithium Conference Proceedings. Ed has a Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University, and he has an Expert System Engineering Professional certification from the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE). He is also volunteering as a board member for Colorado State Science Fair, Inc. In his spare time, Ed enjoys running, hiking, skiing, golf, domestic and international travel, and spending time with his two sons and one daughter-in-law.
